Looks like Home is a success

Who knew that people would actually want to pay for virtual clothing and virtual furniture and virtual houses in a virtual life. People are, by the bucket loads.
Susan Panico, Senior Director of the PlayStation Network, says that content in the social networking service is selling so well that it's made more money for Sony in it's first four days than the video download service did in it's first week.
That's great news for Sony, especially considering the scathing reviews the Home service has been receiving across the industry. Some say it's boring, others say it's lacking in a tremendous amount of promised content that really should be there considering the amount of delays the service has been hit with.
Is it ridiculous that the biggest seller pre-Christmas was an $8 Santa suit? People actually paid $8 for a virtual Santa suit that has right now become completely obsolete for another 12 months. People are actually spending a dollar on virtual gloves. What does this say to Sony? Well, it says that it's okay to be rorted, if you want my two cents.
Maybe it's not so bad. After all, fans and media alike don't seem to be too impressed with the service so far. And Panico herself says the service works on the "classic 80/20 model, where 20 percent of your customers create 80 percent of your income."
Granted, this doesn't mean there aren't Home fans. There's an extremely vocal community out there that loves and supports Sony's new baby, and they're not hard to find. Simply hop onto a random video game forum and and talk Home down -- see what happens.
Perhaps we should live and let live.. or virtually live.
